What is a global strategist’s role?

By Jim Sinur | February 22, 2008

I know you are quite busy but I was wondering if you could take a few minutes to explain to me what a global strategist’s roles are.   Of course, these roles are different depending on the company one works for, but if you could offer general explanations I would greatly appreciate it.

David,

Generally a strategist looks outside their specific organization and looks for opportunities and threats, evaluate them in light of organizational direction, goals and operational targets. In the context of BPM, a process strategist would help define the major cross functional and/or cross organizational processes and help interpret directions into process goals, outcomes and deliverables.

In addition, in an organization with a proactive culture, a strategist would identify scenarios that could affect processes and identify what policies would have to change thus affecting process rules, goals and tolerances. There are many different kinds of strategists depending on company, but their job is to be an organizational lookout for major adjustments in course direction.
